The USB Mobile Port Replicator provides an external connection to your camera through both a USB port on its own and a USB port on your computer. But, if the USB Mobile Port Replicator is connected to only one USB port on your computer, the camera won't show up when you plug it in. If you find this situation, the USB Mobile Port Replicator provides both a logical and physical USB connection, and your USB camera is not yet ready to be detected. To use the camera, you'll need to plug it into one of the USB hubs on your computer as well.
First, plug the USB cable into the USB port on your camera and into the camera dock. Both devices also have a physical USB connection that completes this connection -- this cable is the one that you plug into a port on your computer, as well as into the back panel of the USB Mobile Port Replicator.
Third, plug an assigned USB cable into a USB port (either the one on the computer or the one on the USB Mobile Port Replicator) and then plug the other end of the assigned USB cable into a USB port on a USB hub. (Tighten the USB cable to the hub and look for a light to ensure that the hub powers up.) This can usually be done in three of four ports on inexpensive USB hubs. If your computer's USB ports are not working, check your computer's manual to see if a USB slave hub is needed.
Second, plug an assigned USB cable into a USB port on your computer. Usually, only one USB cable is required -- if one port is nonfunctional, connecting to another will not create a second problem. But if the message, \"USB Mass Storage Device (Generic)\", appears, the USB Mobile Port Replicator does not have a USB connection.
If you see a message indicating that the translation is not supported in your operating system, it is not a misprint or a problem with the USB Mobile Port Replicator. It indicates that the software you are running is not compatible with this particular device.
